| District Attorney Scheibel
Elizabeth D. Scheibel Elizabeth D. Scheibel is a graduate of Mount Holyoke
College and Western New England College School of Law. Following law school,
Betsy worked for eight years in the Hampden County District Attorney’s
Office. During her tenure in Hampden County, much of her case load involved
the prosecution of child sexual assault cases. In May 1993, Betsy became
the District Attorney for the Northwestern District. Betsy is the first
woman district attorney in the history of the Commonwealth. As District
Attorney, Betsy emphasizes the prosecution of crimes against vulnerable
victims and has created community education and outreach programs for
these populations, particularly in the areas of domestic violence, juvenile
justice, consumer protection and abuse committed against children, elders
and persons with disabilities. District Attorney Scheibel is a two-time past president of the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association, past Co-Chair of the Law Enforcement Education and Training Subcommittee of the Governor’s Commission on Criminal Justice Innovation, and was a ten-year member of the Massachusetts Victim Assistance Board. |
